For a long time, the Catholic Christian community at Deva Matha Forane Church, Paisakary, under the Syro-Malabar Metropolitan Archdioceses of Thalassery, desired an institution of higher learning for the higher education of its youth, and thus to bring about the region's overall development. Their long-cherished dream was realized thanks to the capable leadership of Rev. Fr. John Mullakkara, then Vicar of Deva Matha Forane Church (2003-2005).
Deva Matha College, a self-financing venture affiliated with the University of Kannur, began operations in the Academic Year 2003-'04 on the ground floor of what is now St. Thomas Block, led by the visionary Rev. Fr. John Mullakkara, the Founder-Manager. The College is located on a hillock with a panoramic view, surrounded by the majestic Western Ghats mountain range in the Payyavoor Panchayath of Kannur.
