Air hostess are members of crew on board in an aircraft and are also called cabin crew and also stewards. They take of safety, security and comfortof passengers during the flight and also provide necessary instructions during take - off and landing. In co - ordination with pilots, they also play a very crucial role in emergency situations during flight.Both international and domestic airlines & private airlines and charter planes also appoint Air hostess. Air hostess job is quite challenging involving travel on all working days and might be away from family and friends regularly. This will be more in air hostess working in long haul international flights, where a single return trip will be for 3 – 4 days depending on the flight destination.
There are many institutes in different cities of India that offer Air Hostess / Cabin crew training courses. Candidates who have completed their 10 + 2 are eligible for taking up this course. It is advisable to do the course after graduation as certain airlines and institutes admit students who have completed their graduation.
In this course, students are trained on the skills and etiquettes required to be an air hostess or cabin crew. The duration of the course is 6 month to 1 year. The training lays emphasis on Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) to be followed during a flight apart from the measures taken during emergencies. Training also includes handling passenger queries during flights, taking care of passenger comfort, safety and making their experience a pleasurable one.
Career in air hostess is highly glamorous and can be quite stressful at times as it involves travelling almost on daily basis. Delayed flights can extend working hours. At the same time, the sector offers wide range of opportunities a rewarding career.
