Whether it is Tom &Jerry or Chota Bheem, most growing up kids or grown up, the love for cartoons is there. Cartoonists not only give an image for a cartoon character, they also give a personality for it. Whether it is regional, national or international papers, daily dose of cartoons are something that most look forward to. Cartoons also reflect on society and societal issues. Cartoons are sarcastic and are hugely popular among masses. 

Many of us would recall R.K.Laxman who is an iconic cartoonist in India. The common man cartoon created by R.K.Laxman is etched in memories of many Indians. The erstwhile airlines, Air Deccan also carried the common man cartoon, which emphasizes the impact of cartoons. Matt Groening is a world renowned cartoonist from United States who created television series “The Simpsons” which still runs on television.

Though there is no specific qualification to become a cartoonist, courses in fine arts, visual arts, illustration and drawing helps in developing and sharpening skills to be a cartoonist. It might not help to secure a job, but will help to understand the nuances of being a cartoonist.

Newspaper & magazine publishers, film industry television industry, advertising and media agencies are always in look out for talented cartoonists. Apart from regular jobs, Cartoonists also have rage of freelance opportunities.

In the initial times of career, cartoonist career might not be rewarding, but once they establish themselves, the opportunities are limitless and quite rewarding.
