Dance is an age-old culture in India. This huge subcontinent has produced a wide range of dance styles, each influenced by the period and environment in which it was created. Indian dance is a complex art form that needs skill, dedication, and discipline. Almost single dance stance has a specific meaning in Indian dances, and they all reflect some aspect of life. Mythology, folklore, stories, and classical literature provide inspiration for dance topics.

Classical and folk dance are the two main types of dance. There are dance forms that are unique to different regions of the country and are based on old dance disciplines. Tamil Nadu's Bharatnatyam, Andhra Pradesh's Kuchupudi, Orissa's Odissi, Kathak, Kerala’s Kathakali, and Manipuri are among the classical forms. The content of all Indian classical dances is religious, which makes them distinct. Bharatnatyam is thought to be the oldest and purest of all these Indian traditional dance genres.

Bachelor of Dance is a graduation degree, post completion interested students can take up Master of Dance for further learning. Apart from these courses many dance institutes offer dance training at entry level to expert level by highly trained and renowned dancers.

A career in classical dance should be driven by passion and can rewarding if their art is recognized in the society. They can teach dance to interested students on their own or join as dance trained in existing institutes. Opportunities in various functions and events is also source of revenue.
