Career as Charted Accountant

A chartered accountant is a professional accountant who specializes in accounting, auditing, and taxation. They are approved as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) after passing the institute's Chartered Accountancy Final Examination is called as CA. As per Company Act, they are allowed to be appointed as auditors of corporations in India.

Entry for students interested to do their CA is at 2 levels, 10 + 2 and graduation. After completion of their 12th or intermediate, they have to register(bi – annual 30th June / 31st December) with Board of Studies (BoS) of ICAI.

The following are the steps

  1. Complete four months study period and appear for Foundation exam in May / November for qualifying exam.
  2. Register with Board of Studies for intermediate course and complete 8 months study course
  3. Pass both or either groups in CA Intermediate course
  4. Register for Integrated course on IT & Soft skills (ICITSS) before starting of Practical Training and complete.
  5. After passing of one or either groups of CA intermediate course, register for three-year practical training on passing either or both the Groups of the CA Intermediate course.
  6. Register for the CA Final Course after qualifying both the Groups of Intermediate Course.
  7. Advanced Integrated four weeks Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (AICITSS), during the last two years of Practical Training before appearing for Final Examination.
  8. Appear for Final examination during last six months of practical training.
  9. Complete practical training.
  10. Qualify both groups of CA Final course.
  11. Become an ICAI member.

Alternatively students who have completed their graduation or post - graduation with 55% from stream of commerce or 60% from non - commerce stream.

  1. Register with Board of Studies (BoS) for CA intermediate course  
  2. Successfully complete ICITSS before commencing practical training
  3. Register for the three-year Practical Training.
  4. Appear in CA Intermediate examination after nine months of Practical Training & qualify for CA Intermediate level.
  5. Register for the CA Final Course after qualifying both groups of the Intermediate course.
  6. Complete Advanced Integrated four weeks Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (AICITSS) during last 2 years of practical training before CA final examination.
  7. Appear in CA Final examination during last six months of Practical Training.
  8. Complete Practical Training.
  9. Qualify both groups of CA Final.
  10. Become a member of the ICAI.
