Founded in 1965 by an act of the Gujarat State Government, Gujarat Ayurved University is a pioneering statutory university in the area of ayurveda that offers instruction, training, and research in a number of ayurvedic specialties. In addition to undergraduate instruction, the university offers postgraduate courses in several ayurvedic areas and conducts high-caliber clinical and experimental research in the area.

The University has accepted responsibility for acting as a nodal agency for the global dissemination of Ayurveda in response to the rising popularity of the practise in foreign countries.

The university has created courses in naturopathy, yoga, and pharmaceutical sciences related to ayurvedic medicine.

Numerous foreign students from Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America are enrolled in short- and long-term courses as well as clinical training in several University departments.

University's campus is enormous and broad, and its facilities are exquisite. For patient care, research, and student clinical training, it features indoor hospitals with more than 300 beds. More than 1500 people visit the University Hospital's different outpatient departments (OPDs), which offer specialist Ayurvedic care like panchakarma and ksharasutra, among other things. This hospital offers care to many people in Ano who have neurological conditions, paralysis, rheumatic issues, immune system illnesses, skin problems, piles, and fistulas. There are established herbal gardens accessible for instruction and training. The majority of these amenities are free of charge and supported by the governments of Gujarat and India.
