Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Republic of India is home to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU), formerly known as Marathwada University. It bears the name of Indian jurist, politician, academic, and principal architect of the Indian Constitution Bharat Ratna "Babasaheb" Ambedkar. Babasaheb Ambedkar was principally responsible for the establishment of this university in order to cover the enormous gap in higher education resources in the western Vidarbh, Marathwada, and North Maharashtra regions. The institution was founded on August 23, 1958.
