St. John's institution is a private Roman Catholic institution in Queens, New York City. It was founded in 1870 by the Congregation of the purpose (C.M., the Vincentian Fathers) with the purpose of providing a Catholic university education to the children of New York. Originally located in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, the flagship campus was relocated to its current location in the Queens borough in the 1950s. St. John's also maintains campuses on Staten Island and Manhattan, as well as the Long Island Graduate Center in Hauppauge, New York. Furthermore, the university has international campuses in Rome, Italy, Paris, France, and Limerick, Ireland. Saint John the Baptist is the patron of the university.
