DSU is proud of its history as one of the original land-grant universities in the nation, having been founded in 1891 as the State College for Colored Students. We are now a welcoming learning environment for students from various backgrounds. Our student body is currently 62% African-American, with a growing proportion of Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, and other international students.
